Before you start
Espresso machines work with water close to boiling point, steam and pressure. Our products are used inside or on these machines, so the same precautions apply.
- WARNING: Hot water, steam and hot metal can cause serious burns. Let parts cool before touching them, and hold portafilters and jugs by their handles.
- Before installing, removing or adjusting any part in the group head, switch the machine off, unplug it, let the group head cool to the touch and make sure there is no pressure left in it.
- Check that each product is compatible with your machine before use. Our Compatibility Guide (Compatibility Guide) and the product page list the models each product fits.
- Some products contain fine sharp needles, small parts or magnets. Keep them out of reach of children. These products are not toys.
- Use our products only for preparing coffee as described in this guide. Do not modify them, except by swapping parts that are designed to be replaced, such as handles, needles and accents.
- If you are not comfortable installing a part, have it installed by a qualified espresso machine technician.
Shower screens and contact mesh
HD shower screens and contact mesh are installed in the group head of your machine and replace the original shower screen.
- Switch the machine off, unplug it and wait until the group head is cool to the touch. Make sure there is no pressure left in the group head.
- Remove the portafilter. Remove the original screw and shower screen as described in your machine's manual.
- Wipe the group head clean and check that the group gasket is in good condition.
- Fit the contact mesh and the HD shower screen in the order shown in the instructions that come with the product.
- Fix the screen with your machine's original screw. For the Breville Oracle Jet, use the screw included in the BR58HD Jet kit. Tighten firmly but do not overtighten, as the thread can strip.
- Lock the portafilter in. If it does not lock, or locks well past its usual position, stop and contact us.
- Plug in and switch on the machine. When it reaches temperature, run water through the group without coffee and check for leaks around the portafilter. Backflush before brewing your first coffee.
The BR54HD screen works with Breville 54mm double baskets only and is not compatible with Breville 54mm single baskets. If water leaks, sprays or drips from around the portafilter after installation, switch the machine off and contact us before using it again.
Portafilters, filter baskets and puck screens
- WARNING: Never unlock or remove the portafilter while the machine is brewing or while the group is still under pressure. Wait until the pump has stopped and the pressure has been released. Hot water and coffee grounds can spray out.
- Lock the portafilter fully into the group head before brewing. If it does not lock firmly, do not brew.
- Bottomless portafilters have no spout, so coffee can spray if the coffee bed is uneven. Keep your face and hands away from the underside of the portafilter while brewing. Use a shot mirror to watch the extraction.
- On modular and hybrid portafilters, check that the handle and spouts are screwed in tight before each use. Do not use a portafilter with a loose or damaged handle.
- Portafilters, filter baskets and puck screens get very hot during use. Let them cool or use a cloth before touching the metal.
- Use the basket size the product page recommends and do not overfill the basket. Too much coffee can stop the portafilter from locking and can push grounds into the group head.
- Puck screens sit on top of the coffee. Remove them only after the portafilter has been unlocked and they have cooled.
Tampers, tamper station and distributors
- Tamp on a stable, level surface. Keep your fingers clear of the gap between the tamper and the basket rim.
- Spring-loaded and self-leveling tampers contain a spring under tension. Do not take them apart.
- The Portafilter Tamper Station is designed for Pesado portafilters. Place it on a stable, level surface before use.
- Distributors have parts that move or drop when you use them. Keep fingers clear and set the depth before you place the distributor on the basket.
- Tampers and distributors are heavy, solid metal. Store them where they cannot fall.
WDT tools (Clump Crusher) and accents
WDT tools have fine needles, such as the 0.3mm needles on the Clump Crusher V2.0, that are sharp enough to pierce skin.
- WARNING: Sharp needles. Keep WDT tools out of reach of children. Store them needles-down in their stand or with the needles covered.
- Use the tool only to stir coffee grounds in the basket. Do not use it on any other material or point it at anyone.
- If a needle bends, loosens or breaks, stop using the tool and replace the needle. Do not straighten bent needles by hand.
- When you replace needles or fit a DIY pin assembly, hold the needles by their base and keep your fingers away from the tips.
- Leva accents have an M8 thread. Screw them in fully and check they are tight before use.
- If you fit accents to the lever of a lever espresso machine, do it with the machine cold, not under pressure and with the lever in its resting position. A lever under spring tension can move suddenly. Check the accent is tight before each use.
Magnetic dosing funnel and shot mirror
- WARNING: The magnetic dosing funnel and the shot mirror contain magnets. Swallowed magnets can cause serious internal injury. Keep them out of reach of children. If a magnet or small part is swallowed, get medical help immediately.
- Keep magnets away from pacemakers and other implanted medical devices, and away from credit cards and other magnetic media.
- Magnets can pull together or onto metal surfaces with force. Keep fingers clear when you attach or separate them.
- Attach the shot mirror only to a clean, flat metal surface under the machine where it will not be hit by hot water or the portafilter. Check it is secure before brewing.
Milk jugs, cups and bean tubes
- WARNING: Steamed milk, steam and the steam wand can cause serious burns. Fill the jug no higher than the bottom of the spout, keep the steam wand tip under the surface of the milk while steaming, and switch off the steam before you lift the jug away.
- Milk jugs get hot during steaming. Hold them by the handle.
- Do not use a cup or bean tube that is cracked or chipped.
- Do not heat milk jugs, cups or bean tubes on a stove, in a microwave or in an oven.
Cleaning, care and inspection
- Let parts cool before cleaning. Rinse after each use and dry before storing.
- Wash stainless steel parts by hand with warm water and mild detergent. Do not use steel wool or abrasive pads on electro-polished or colored finishes.
- Wooden parts, such as wooden handles, the Wooden Clump Crusher and wooden leva accents: wipe clean with a damp cloth. Do not soak them or put them in a dishwasher.
- When you use espresso machine cleaning products, follow their maker's instructions and rinse our parts with clean water afterwards.
- Backflush and clean the group head regularly, following your machine's manual. Coffee oils building up behind the shower screen can affect water flow.
- Before each use, check for bent or loose needles, loose handles or accents, damaged mesh, worn gaskets, cracks or damaged threads.

Stop using the product and contact us if:
- water leaks, drips or sprays from around the portafilter or group head
- the portafilter does not lock firmly
- a part is cracked, bent, deformed or has damaged threads
