Swapping out the old shower screen for the newer one, could see straight away the difference in the water distribution. It's changed my brew (definitely extracts better... but now I have to dial in again and I'm lazy so... eh). The little guitar pick thing that I assume is for removing the thin screen from the puck is generally... not that helpful, but I guess less puck mess on my hands isn't a bad thing overall. Was a worthwhile purchase, just need to save for a naked portafilter to really get a clear indication of what's happening with my brew.
Excellent upgrade for my Breville espresso machine! The High Diffusion Shower Screen provides more even water distribution and helps produce a more consistent extraction. It’s well made, easy to install, and has noticeably improved the quality and consistency of my espresso shots. Definitely worth the upgrade
compared to the stock part this is waaaay better, it used to spit everywhere, so smooth now. i want to get one for each friend with a machine, and dont worry about the shipping, they get it around the planet really quickly.
The V2.0 is magnificent. The use of the puck screen keeps everything clean. The original with the diffuser plate got blocked up very quickly. In my opinion it was more a failure than an upgrade from the Breville original shower screen. I felt like I had wasted the $100+ on the original and was very reluctant to try another one in excess of $100 but it's so worth it. Maybe owners of the original version should have got discount?
First pour was a world class upgrade, and we’ve loved our Breville Express for a dozen years now! What a sweet and simple investment to improve a tried and true household item that was already our day-to-day hero!!
Water doesn’t come from holes on one side. Its an improvement from the standard screen but not what I thought. The head plastic grooves look a bit smashed.
The new plate is still causing unevensoray of the water. There is a spot at the back as the pressure increases that sprays on the back wall. I have checked the position of the plate and it is correct
This new screen has completely restored faith in my Breville Dual Boiler. Turned out the old screen support was broken in 3 places as suggested in the Pesado video. No wonder I could not stop a shot just streaming through the puck to give a terrible bitter taste! Now the shots are full, rich and taste great again. Thanks Pesado!
This looks nothing like the image of the product on your website and in the emails confirming the order, delivery and installation instructions. Can you please arrange for delivery of the correct part as advertised?
Easy to fit.
Need to re dial in grind and dose.
I use less coffee now than previously with an improvement in extraction consistency and hence flavour.
Top quality upgrade.
Doesn’t fix the channelling for the Barista Express Impress. Just got this and of course they release an updated version. Don’t waste your money. The stock diffuser pulls a way better shot.
I found the unit traps grinds in it that eventually block some of the channels resulting in uneven flow. Regular cleaning (weekly) is likely required. The original unit did not do this. Also the new unit does not allow use of the single shot filter basket. If the base plate was thinner this would likely not be the case. So far the only compelling benefit is removing a peice of plastic from the machine.
Really like it so far. It seems to be distributing the water more evenly over the puck. Coffee flavor has been great, bold, intense and creamy. I had to contact customer service because initially the portafilter would not seat in the machine. Turns out, if you use a puck screen and a tapered portafilter basket, all of it will sit too high not allowing enough room to lock the portafilter in place. The Pesado shower screen is a little over a millimeter thicker than the standard shower screen. The solution was to use a straight sided basket and a good tamp.
After we figured out how to reduce the puck and made the grind more course, it came out a lot better. Looking to get the puck down to 18 grams so I fit have to get a bottomless filter handle.
Advertised as compatible, but it reduces headspace and disrupts the puck
I bought the Pesado 58.5 High Diffusion Shower Screen for my Breville Oracle Jet because it was presented as compatible with the machine and as an upgrade over Breville’s plastic diffuser and thin metal screen.
Unfortunately, it has created several problems that were not present with the original Breville parts.
The Pesado assembly appears to sit lower in the group head and leaves too little space above the coffee puck. With the Oracle Jet’s normal automatic dose and tamp, I cannot lock in the portafilter without the shower screen pressing into the puck and leaving visible indentations. The portafilter is also noticeably harder to turn into place.
After installing it, my normal espresso extraction became considerably longer than the roughly 25-second shots I was getting before. The puck also showed signs of uneven saturation, with portions that did not appear fully wet. This defeats the purpose of installing a product that is supposed to improve water distribution.
I checked the installation and followed the stated orientation and compatibility guidance. The issue is not simply a grind adjustment. The physical clearance has changed, and the screen appears to compress or disturb the puck before brewing even begins.
A product marketed specifically for the Breville Oracle Jet should work with the machine’s standard dosing and tamping system without forcing the owner to reduce the dose, alter the puck, or struggle to lock in the portafilter.
I am disappointed because this was not a cheap upgrade, and I expected a properly tested fit. I have returned to the original Breville parts, which fit and operate normally.
One star due to the poor fit, reduced puck clearance, longer extractions, and uneven saturation.
It was really easy replacing the old shower screen with the new high Diffusion one . I watched the video & all done within 5 mins . Water flows as advertised a big improvement .
I’m a female in my 70’s & it was a cinch to do .
Im a Noob, so take my excitement as such. Im learning and my experience prior to Pesado's distribution system has been less than optimal. Like they state, my extraction was poor and most of my pucks were soggy and fell apart. I tried changing coarseness, amount, even custom ran my water, using my scale and pre-measured shot glass. Nothing reminded me of my first Italian espresso until I switched my water diffuser out with the Presado 54mm for my Breville Barista Express.
After installing I literally watched the water cascade out of all the little portholes, with excitement. I wasn't expecting this to be the whole reason my espresso was so lame. First use through and it had actual creama! Wooo!! So I then pulled my Portafiller and checked the puck. Holy Molly, it was a solid as a brick! Completely used, with no dry areas. Placing in upon my pile of disasters made me feel like I was finally starting to figure this mystery out. Then I took a sip... OMG... I found my flavor. All this because of this diffuser? It's literally the only thing I changed. So Bravo to the Aussie company that gave me my Italian experience! Ive ordered your 54mm Hybrid Portafiller along with your Screen, to be used with my already waiting HE Filter Basket. If you've made it this far and are brand new at this and tired disappointment, just buy it. You wont be disappointed.
The water just jets into the puck. While it is spread on the puck more evenly, it streams forcefully into the puck. This means that it just drips from the group head rather than just making a steady single stream. You sell it as an improvement. I went straight back to the original.
At first I absolutely loved it flow is very even and just beautiful, then realised that the way I usually packed my portafilter just wouldn’t work anymore (which I do not believe I seen anywhere on there site just how much thicker there shower screen is and that it’s hardly usable with the standard Breville portafilter) I had to reduce my grind amount to 16g from 18g and remove the puck screen to get enough clearance between the coffee puck and the shower screen, this made a noticeable difference in the strength of my coffee shot and also in the consistency of the pour. After using it for about a week I decided to give my machine a deep clean and I was shocked to say the least the channels in the shower screen were completely clogged with coffee grounds, and this is with running water though the machine before and after most of my shots. I still love the evenness of the water flow it Is very good at doing what is designed for but if it were sold with a portafilter or a basket that can fit 18g or more of coffee along with a puck screen I think that would be a lot easier for the people buying the shower screen and having a more pleasant experience.
Edit*
After having another look at the website they now have other options to get the shower screen bundled with the 20g basket would have been good when back when I purchased my shower screen
Has changed the extraction a little bit but I think, it would have been a bit better for the price!
It is top quality looking and packaged beautifully, looks great 👍
I installed 54mm on my machine and honestly think the factory does a better job of spreading out the water in equal amounts. I also had to lower the grind volume because the new one is so much thicker. So I'm neutral, knowing all this I wouldn't have bought it. Because I did I'm using it.
